Would RecommendStar drive screws like these are the high quality alternative to both nails and phillips head screws. Yes, they are expensive, but you can disassemble if you want to without damage such as you experience with nails. Use a minimally worn driver and align the axis of the driver with the screw and you will not get the pop-pop-pop slippage that I get with phillips head screws. The zinc chromate coating is fairly good for corrosion resistance.
