Ratings & Reviews for Gibraltar Mailboxes Ironside Metal Standard Mailbox Black

Durability, quality engineering

The Gibraltar Ironside is the way mail boxes should be made - tough, high quality materials, engineered for sustained, excellent service, elegant simplicity /like any well used tool should be. I compared all the mail boxes at Lowes and finally decided it was wise and practical to purchase equipment that is built for good service and to last. The Gibraltar Ironside combined all the premium parts and features that other boxes either did not have or had only a few. So I spent $70 versus $35. For...

What a mailbox

This is heavy duty. Very thick steel. Kids wont be able to smash this box easy. It will withstand snow from plows too.

Secure Mailbox

My old mailbox, also a Gibraltar anti-destructo type, got clobbered again (3rd time so far) and is was time for it to give up the ghost. Whatever hit it must've sure left a mark. The new welded superstructure mount will probably cause the next one to hit it to call for a tow truck.

You Have Mail

This is a very well constructed and designed mail box with a replaceable magnetic door catch. Easy to install

Tough mailbox!

This mailbox is heavy duty! Several years ago I had to replace our mailbox with a plastic one after some idiot hit it with a baseball bat but my wife hated the new mailbox. It was bulky and unattractive. I put up a new wooden post and when I found this mailbox and saw how sturdy it was made I knew it could take a lick and keep on providing a safe sturdy place for our mail to be delivered. And it looks great too!

Open the box before you leave the store

+ it's a large, sturdy mailbox - the one I got had a faulty Hong that I didn't discover until after attaching my address stickers

Great quality

Upgraded mailbox and I am super happy with the durability and quality of this product .

Not really

It is described as nearly indestructible but didnt stand up to a hammer and Im sure wouldnt stand up to a ball bat either. The steel used is just too thin and still caves in.

Perfect

It's the perfect size for all of my packages! My mail man often skipped over my house for scheduled pickups because he didn't want to walk to my door. I replaced my old mailbox with this one and now he has no excuse not to leave them! The extra lip on the front prevents rain from getting inside so I never have any issues with wet mail or packages anymore.

Strong sturdy mailbox

Strong sturdy mailbox, hopefully it stands up to the brats that like to play mailbox tag in our neighborhood. Only issue is the lid slams down when you open it but otherwise I have no complaints. I like the magnetic closure vs the regular mailbox closure. Overall happy with my purchase.

This mailbox is a Beast!

I was tired of replacing mailboxes, so I picked this box up. No regrets. Today it had it’s THIRD trial by fire and ate it’s third vehicle mirror. Little scratched and I’ve had to bend the lip back out, but still the same strong box. I paired my mailbox with a wood post and foam rather than concrete. The wood and foam helps this box to hold up to the energy it receives on impact.

Indestructible

You get what you pay for. I've owned this box for going on 5 years. It has been hit twice by wreckless drivers. Although I had to either repair or replace the cedar pole it sits on, the box was practically untouched. On one of the hits I noticed the door scraped on one side when opened/closed. I simply took a hammer and tapped the door/hinge, and knocked it back into place. The paint has also held up well. After two hits, any scrape or scratch didn't completely remove the paint, so it remains ru...

Built like a tank

Solid mailbox. It could benefit from having a chain or stop to keep the door from opening all the way down (pointed at the ground). Otherwise this thing is solid. I’d say I’d buy it again but probably wont need to!

Great look and size

Great size for a family of three holds packages and every thing

Solid

This thing is built top notch. Just grabbing the handle let’s you know it will last.
