These go up like most at first (two screws for the mounting plate, then twist into place). It does not lock at all, so it's a bit loose unless you use a separate screw. The room customization is quite irritating to set, but you don't need to do it for the detectors to work. Otherwise, they are pretty much like any other detector. No false alarms so far. Good enough.
FIRST ALERT HAD TO REPLACE FOUR
Would Not RecommendI had to have four new ones replaced by the manufacturer within a year. They went off for no reason. You can only "turn them off" with a switch and they are not able to be used after that. First Alert did send me replacements but still.

I bought these to replace a couple in my house that had randomly died. These were easy to activate and install. One fit on the existing bracket and just clicked right in. The other didn't fit, but I was able to take off the old bracket and fit the new one into the same screw holes with the included screws. Test worked fine and I've trusted it since.
