It's an Air Gap

Would Recommend

Easy to install, uncomplicated enough for a layman to install - I did it.

Dishwasher Air Gap

Would Recommend

Any time a dishwasher is connected to a sink or any other drain lower than 18 inches, an air gap must be used to prevent the dishwasher drain from siphoning dry. Makes sense that Lowes sells the air gaps in 4 different styles and finishes, as they also sell dishwashers. Home Depot doesn't even carry them. It's all plastic, but looks decent and does what is made for, no leaks or other issues.

A better dishwasher air gap

Would Recommend

It’s better cause it fits modern sinks and easier to install. Less parts and easy to install.

Quality control not too good.

When it was installed water would not flow through too well. Took it apart again and on inspection noticed that there was mold flash blocking tube. I had to drill out the mold flash debris to get a clear passage. Works good now.

Don't waste your money.

Like one of the other reviews mentions, the plastic is made of very low quality and as a result it is flexible. Trying to cinch the nut down to secure the air gap solidly to the sink is a challenge. The nut pops off the threads. The second time this happened I removed it and threw it away. Spend the extra dollar(s) and get one that is made of a more rigid plastic or even copper. You do get what you pay for.

Truly a plastic vent pipe

Would Not Recommend

I was expecting that the cover was a brushed nickel (metal) material. Instead, it is plastic with a painted finish. The threads on the main part of the vent are so thin that the plastic nut can jump the threads if overtightened or the drain hose is too heavy. It will be sufficient for my job, but I'm not expecting it to last forever.

Leaned so I removed it.

I installed a new dishwasher and wanted to do it right so bought this air gap. The first use of the dishwasher caused the air gap to spew water all over the kitchen. This was probably my fault by not having an unrestricted output hose but it was just easier to take out the air gap and use the high loop method.

Works Fine

Would Recommend

I've installed it myself. Works perfect. My only regret is seeing it for sale elsewhere for approx $5.00 less than what I paid with 10% off this price.

Leaks

Would Not Recommend

I Installed this air gap 6 months ago in a completely rebuild kitchen with brand new plumbing and it has overflowed into the sink the entire time, not large amount just a few cups of water at a time. After redoing the layout and trying every trick from every plumber I could ask I gave up and decided it was the air gap. I carefully looking at the way this air gap is designed there is to big of a gap no way for it not to overflow. I am throwing this one a way and getting a better designed air gap....

Needed one for my new kitchen sink

Would Not Recommend

The Plastic Nuts to secure this and create the water seal to the sink are inferior... they pop loose even with my finger tight pressure. I will be going to a plumbing supply house to purchase a commercial grade Air Gap to replace this one.

Not too bad

Would Recommend

It looks like it is going to function fine. The threads did not have much play. The rubber gasket (very important) was plenty big. and easily covers the 1-3/8" hole. I would say the gasket is even oversized, especially compared to the leaking air gap I replaced. The chromed plastic cover fits rather poorly, with no positive feel. I think it will be knocked off in the future. The overall look is pretty cheap, but serviceable. The gasket is exposed under the cover and because of the tightened nut...

Air Gap

Would Recommend

There are no instructions. When I first installed, I left a loop in the discharge line, 7/8". This caused water to back up and spew out the air gap top. I cut the discharge hose shorted so there was no loop and it worked fine.
