What Customers Are Saying
Customers praise this putty for effectively filling nail holes and small cracks in trim, noting it smooths easily with a finger and allows seamless paint application. Many highlight quick cleanup and reliable performance for detail work. However, a substantial portion report serious drying inconsistencies—some say it never hardens and remains sticky for weeks, while others receive containers that are rock-hard and unusable. Several note it dries out quickly if the lid isn't sealed tightly. Additional concerns include incompatibility with latex paint and inability to sand once set. Despite these drawbacks, most customers find it worthwhile for small touch-ups when used as intended.

Would RecommendI used this product at the recommendation of a painter with 40+ years experience. Read the directions! I found it to be perfect for its intended application - filling small nail holes and miter gaps in newly installed baseboard and door casing before painting. I do wish they sold this in a smaller container, as a little bit goes a long way. But, If you are trying to repair drywall, patch holes bigger than a nailhead, etc., use something else.
Is good!
Would RecommendIt’sa good painters putty. I’ve never used any other brands, so this is what I know. It works as advertised.

Works Every Time
Would RecommendI am 60 plus years old. I have used DAP Painters Putty on all of my painting projects over the years. Once upon a time when my boys were much younger I used DAP to repair windows that had been shot with BB guns. According to the boys the neighborhood poltergeist was responsible. I let them off the hook for originality but did require them to assist in making the repairs. DAP works each time every time.

Easy to use- dries fast
Would RecommendThis spackling compound is very light and fluffy. It applies nicely and formally to whatever imperfection or hole you are trying to disguise. I like the texture of it a lot. But - it is not intended for deep gouged or anything with a large diameter. I would recommend it.

Good product
Would RecommendProduct works as intended. It can get a little yellowish tint to it after some time which isn’t a big deal as it’s meant to be painted over. Also, this product will dry out quickly if the top is not properly sealed back on. This is user error so nothing against the product. I wish Lowe’s sold it in a smaller tub though!

A little hard to use
Would RecommendNot much experience fixing wood damage, it may be a technique issue but I had a hard time getting it to not stick to the putty knife on a second pass.
