WORST toaster ever

My first toaster was a lemon. After multiple complaints, it was replaced without a warranty. The replacement was as bad as the first. It browns unevenly, toast pops up multiple times before finally staying down, browning adjustment doesn't function, time to toast is longer than it would take to toast it in the oven and flip it. The wires inside rarely turn orange, and typically only on one side. You have to flip it back and forth and side to side. WASTE OF MONEY!

Thermostat issues followup

Three days ago I left a 2 star review on the Cafe toaster that had a thermostat failure within the warranty period. (Cafe solicited the review or I wouldn't have left one.) They replaced it with a unit that also had a malfunctioning thermostat. I gave up and now just have to toast my bread twice each morning to achieve a medium brown. Cafe has responded to my review with instructions to contact them as they "want to help". When I called them today I was told that it was just an automated re...

Only lasted 2 years

Had this toaster for two years and then it started popping my breakers the electrician said the heating element or the grounding went bad so I had to buy another one to match the rest of my appliances.

Thermostat issues

This toaster looks great on the counter, and it performed beautifully in the first three months. Thereafter the thermostat ceased fully functioning, leaving no ability to alter the degree of toasting. I’ve never had to return an appliance before, but pursued a replacement under warranty. Unfortunately the refurbished replacement has the same issue. I’ve given up, and just double toast my bread each AM. The original purchase was 12 months ago.

Top of the line toaster

We love the evenness of toasting. I never thought there could be a difference in toasters, but this one top grade. Solid construction.

Lever won’t stay down

We recently redid our entire kitchen in GE cafe appliances. We were happy to learn cafe had a matching toaster to add to the new look of the kitchen. We’ve had the new toaster for a few months when the lever would not stay down, making it useless. We’ve removed the few crumbs it had and still can not get the lever to stay down.

Toxic smell

The toaster looks cool, but we had to put it in the garage for a few weeks due to the toxicity of the fumes it emits. It's in the house now but still hasn't burned off all the plastic used in manufacturing. Ugh.

I don't recommend

I do not like this toaster. It does not toast evenly. It also either toasts too much or too little. This is the 2nd one I have owned as well. The 1st one broke in under a year for no apparent reason. I was hoping it was just a bad toaster, but this 2nd one is just as poor. I give it 2 stars because it doesn't use much plastic and looks nice.

Proof that Beauty isn’t Everything — Save Your $$$

This toaster, while very attractive, is poorly made and barely performs as well as much cheaper toasters. Even during the 12 months the toaster worked, it did a poor job of toasting, unevenly toasting the two sides of a piece of bread and doing an even worse job toasting bagels. While the warranty lasts 12 months, my toaster stopped toasting at the beginning of month 13, leaving me with an attractive object for my countertop but not the toaster I need and will now have to replace after already ...

Very uneven browning

When performing the ONE SINGLE TASK that is expected to do: Toast bread - it does a less than stellar job. The browning is VERY uneven. The only thing that is consistent, is the inconsistency of the browning.

Broke after only a few uses.

I received this toaster as a gift for Christmas. It broke only after a few uses. It appears the carriage assembly isn’t very sturdy and bent very easily just from popping up. I did get a replacement toaster as it was still covered by warranty. I suggest GE find a better quality supplier.

Great Toaster

Best toaster I’ve ever used. It gets hot and creates the desired effectiveness evenly and quickly. It looks good too. we have matching GE Cafe appliances (stove, refrigerator and dishwasher)
