Would RecommendI was using a screwdriver to remove upholstery staples (100s) from some bar stools. After a bit, I decided to try a specialty tool. This worked much better at loosening the 22 gauge upholstery staples, and then I pulled them out with leveraging a channel lock against the surface. The process is painful and slow, but it works better with this specialized tool (and it is not too expensive!)
