What Customers Are Saying
The product offers a mixed performance, with some users praising its effectiveness in edging sidewalks and curbs, and its power to handle tough jobs. However, a significant number of customers reported reliability and durability issues, including problems with starting the engine, stalling, and mechanical failures even after limited use. While the product can be effective when functioning properly, the inconsistent performance and frequent breakdowns are a major concern for potential buyers.

Would Not RecommendThe carburetor has a flaw that seizes gasoline from getting to the ignition chamber. There's a hole deep in the belly of the carburetor that is about 8 atom particles in size, that gas is supposed to pass through, and eventually, make it into combustion. Each time I've taken my TB554's in (I have two of them, hopefully to be zero of them soon) for repair, this has been clogged. Each time. It's costly, and stupid. I've used each one probably about 5 times before having it be in need of repair....

Wonderfully Reliable
Would RecommendI bought this Edger and my lawn has never looked so well manicured and very easy to use too. I would buy it again in heart beat!!

Reliable, easy to use.
Would RecommendI have owned this unit for several years. It does a fine job, no issues getting it started and it runs reliably. Unless clay gets packed up in the blade guard. Then it will stall out. And the blade guard is very difficult to get cleared out. Easier blade guard removal or access to the blade would have helped this issue. The metal belt guard had a design issue and one of the bolts only clamps it on the edge, not through a hole. One of the flanges on the belt guard has broken twice. But ot...

Starts on thr first pull !
Would RecommendI have used this edger fo four years now and it always starts on the first pull ! The priming button makes this edger start every time and the Briggs Stratten Engine runs strong and will probably outlast me.

Curb wheel works good; cranks easy; runs good;
Would Not RecommendI brought the TB554 edger two years ago and have had to replace the belt, the belt guard, the blade guard and the blade adjustment rod. Ok, the belt is a wear issue because of the way it is twisted. The other items failed because of stress due to poor design. I expect to have to replace all these items about every two years. I will probably not need to buy another edger but if I do it will be like the one that I used for over twenty years even if it cost more.

JUMPSTART CAPABILITY
Would Not RecommendI HAVE A ROTATOR CUP PROBLEM AND CAN NOT PULL THE STARTER. THE TB554 NEEDS THE JUMPSTART SYSTEM. WHEN WILL IT BE AVAILABLE? THANKS. JAMES HEDRICK

Carb failure galore
Would Not RecommendOver the last 5 years I have had 3 carburetors on this trimmer( replaced by authorized Briggs shop) The first year I bought it and used it one time, when I went to use the following spring, it wouldn’t start. This was the first carb, although it was still under warranty, Briggs would pay because “warranty doesn’t cover fuel issues “ . I am know on my 3rd carb. Aparantly you need to start thes things monthly or the carbs mysteriously go bad. I have weed eaters, snow blowers, tillers, chippers, mow...

Almost impossible to get it to start
Would Not RecommendSince this edger was new, it has been a bear to get started. Prime it three times and it does nothing after you pull the starter cable 20 times. Maybe on the 21st time you'll get it to start. After having owned a Lawnboy, Honda and a Toro GTS lawnmower, that all started on the first or second pull, I am very disappointed. I would avoid this unit at all costs.

Great - BUT Bad Belts
Would Not RecommendBought in June, 2 weeks later after 2 uses belt broke. Called and received new belt. HORROR putting on. Used until July belt broke. Called and waiting on new belt. This will be the 3rd belt. If and when this one breaks I will complain big time and expect a new edger or reason its not a lemon. If they had a better belt I would love this edger. It does a great job and is easy to use. The way the belt is installed needs to be redesigned.

Does good job
I purchased on 5/10/16. I am sure I registered but it appears I didn't. On with the review . I was not easy to start from the beginning but this can be overcome with starter fluid. Once it running it does a fantastic job . I have did the normal maint. like change out spark plug and clean filter as well as use Ethanol free gasoline.

Excellent Value
Would RecommendI read reviews about the lack of power with this edger, however it has worked just fine over the last month I've had it. I edge about 250 feet of sidewalk and street curb and it works great! Great edger for the price, plus the bonus of having a curb wheel adjustment. Power is not an issue.

"The Edging Maniac"
Would RecommendThe Troy-Bilt TB554 Gas Lawn Edger is an Edging maniac. Before I purchased the TB554 Gas Lawn Edger I used my weed-eater attachment for my weed-eater. It seemed like it would take me forever to edge my drive way, sidewalk, and the front of my yard next to the street. When I cranked up the TB554 Gas Lawn Edger for the first time, I could feel that the job was going to be much easier. After priming the pump, my new edger started in just one pull. I ended up finishing all my edging in under 45...

GREAT for Lawn Manicure Look!
Would RecommendThis is my second year of use during lawn growing season. Does better and quicker job then my old electric edger. Best used when soil is dry. Wet soil sticks to blade shield and must dig out or engine will stop. Just replaced my first broken belt. Took longer then I expected to put new belt on, but with future belt changes, hopefully it will be quicker. Instructions could be written clearer in changing the belt. Overall a good edger.

Nice overall edger
Would RecommendThis edger starts easy and edgers very nice. There is no throttle adjustment, but power is enough that it doesn’t seem to be a problem. Checking oil is not user friendly and to change the oil, there is no drain plug, you have pickup the whole edger up and drain it out the fill plug. If I was designing it, I wouldn’t have the air cleaner on the same side that all the dirt, dust and grass is thrown. All this aside, it does the job.

Really edges through grass like butter
Would RecommendBought this 3 weeks ago. My 12 year old (not Troybilt) but the dust. It use to struggle. Didn't edge for 6 weeks or so. Went through it like butter.

Starts and runs great!
Would RecommendI've only used it 3 times, but it starts first time every time. I like the adjustment for the wheels. It should have a piece of metal to scrape off dirt that builds up on the tires, and it does tend to clog up dirt when it's wet up inside the cavity where the blade turns. But, I like it so far.

Well Pleased
Would RecommendPurchased a little over a month ago and used 3 times. Edges very well and doesn't put any strain on the motor especially first time edged. Starts easily with one pull and not hard to pull. Also enjoy the curb feature.
