To put in sack, keep it right side up

Backpacker Mosquito Repeller: Heard some say it not fit in its sack. But it does, just do no insert it upside down in the bag, just keep it right side up, narrower end downward, easier way in. Then once you get to the wide top, gently wiggle the sack over it, and so easy does it all slide in softly. It's so/that easy. I like it when I cannot use or depend on skin, clothing or body chemicals, net or incense, and when I cannot use a battery version.

On/Off Switch issue

I've used my Thermacell Backpacker Mosquito Repellent for two summers, going through 15 Thermacell mats. Now, the fuel seems to flow and burn more intense, regardless of whether the switch is ON or OFF.

Happy Camper

I've been using Backpacker as well as other Thermacell products for years and love them all! They really do work to keep the mosquitoes and other little bugs away. I'll never use another product! It's also very easy to swap out the mats once you see the color fade. I've also successfully used them in light rain.

Trusted partner during many back country nights

Enjoying our Thermacell backpacker for almost 4 years during late spring, summer and fall back country camping trips in Canada. Sturdy design, cheap(er) to run than small gas refills and effectively repels most mosquitos. I test it’s effectiveness once in a while and turn it off and notice the buggers come zooming straight back.

Still Keeping Camp Bug Free

I have been using the Backpacker MR for over two years now. It goes on every backpack trip, every car camping weekend and every canoe expedition from the Linville Gorge in NC to Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario. Always very good results, and extremely fuel efficient! Never had an issue with not lighting or working as advertised. Just protect from the wind....

Worked extremely well when using Jet Boil canniste

Initially would not work with MSR cannister. Took it to a local distributor who concurred. Jet Boil worked flawlessly.

Best device for camping

Don't look else ware. This is all you need. Best device ever. Running 3 years strong.

Best piece of camping gear.

I bought the Backpacker for a trip to Yellowstone National Park. Using the 8 ounce fuel canister is more economical and easy to find. I light it with a new pad each evening, and let it burn all night. After 17 nights of camping, I am still using the original fuel canister. Awesome product!

When it worked...

I bought this a month ago and we felt it was a great purchase at the time. At about 1 month and 3 pads in, not a chance we could get it started. Unscrewed the tank, waited...Turned on and off the valve. No chance to reignite after all the efforts to want this unit to work. When it did work it did the job. Too bad the "work" in this unit is only weeks and not months or years. Unless my experience changes the "Backpacker" from Thermacell, in my opinion is a "do not buy."

Do Not Buy

I came across this the other week and thought boom that's what I need. I go camping every weekend summer & winter. I got a whole range of gas cannisters from butane propane mix to just butane and propnane and not one of them will turn this thing on. As you screw it onto the gas cannister you can hear it as the gas fills the unit, I switch it on and use the trigger and nothing. This is the biggest piece of crap I have ever purchased. The other products maybe ok but this back packer is rubbish. Sa...

Great When it Stays Lit

I have more than a few Backpackers but they all experience a problem staying lit using ISO-Butane/Propane canisters. When the unit goes out, you can only reignite it by turning it off, unsealing & resealing the fuel canister and reigniting. Is this a fuel brand problem? I it a vapor lock problem? Is it a Backpacker valve problem?? Regardless it is frustrating and annoying and I no longer recommend these to anyone.

New product... Won't light

New thermacell backpacker. Won't light with 2 fuel canisters... Tries to start and just doesn't catch. Does it need an adapter or is it just junk?

Fuel source question

I just bought this for a short camping trip, and I assumed that the fuel was included like all their other products (which I use regularly). The packaging is not clear at all about needing an isobutane fuel canister. Great if you're carrying that for your cooking; not great if you don't normally camp with that fuel

Do not buy.

This product worked great for about a year and now it no longer does. I have tried many different fuel canisters but it will not work. I would not recommend buying

Product failed on second use, having issues getting warranty replacement

Love it

I have had one for a couple years and use it quite often. Recently the piezo igniter seems to have given out. I hope to be able fix it or have the igniter replaced. In the meantime, I bought a second unit to cover for the one that’s down. Great, useful product.

Backpacker repeller

Great product. Mosquitos are gone in the backyard to enjoying sitting outside.

Not happy

I bought the Backpacker Mosquito Repeller and when I finally found the correct fuel it didn't work. It seems to weak to heat the pads.
