The connection between the hood and the body is a long screw and bolt with the bolt being attached to the hood with a thin piece of plastic. All it took was on heavy squirrel or a raccoon and plastic broke and the top became disconnected from the body and body and seed scattered all over the ground. Fake display birds
As this is a good product it could be better. The fake birds attached to this product are unnecessary. The plastic loops that are used to hang the birds do not come off easily. I had to melt the plastic to get them off. It feels silly to have to melt plastic off a product that I am going to be putting food in for animals in nature. It is wasteful...we know is a bird feeder there does not need to be fake birds on it for display reasons.

This all metal feeder is a replacement for a series of plastic ones that just don't last more than a couple years each. Only criticism of this metal one is the wire hanger does not allow the top to slide up enough to easily pour in seeds.
