This is probably going to be a rather long review because I don't make a habit of writing reviews either good or bad but I felt the need to say something about this purchase. I purchased the Porter Cable 18 inch scroll saw about a month ago and I really haven't had the time until recently to work with it, let me also say that this isn't my first scroller for those interested! Good features for the price

1. Does not have a metal insert. Made from flexible material. under pressure motor surges. difficult to cut small pieces when insert sits below table surface, Very noisy.

good tool, bad instructions

the saw itself is good. The assembly instructions for the stand is terrible. Instructions say parts are in labelede bags but nothing was labeled. I finally got it together by following the photo of the saw on the box it was delivered in.

Hunk of Junk

I really want to love this saw but I just can't. The quick tension knob stripped out in less than a week and you can't get the parts to fix it. Also the top and bottom arms are out of parallel so you have to twist the blade almost 90 degrees to get it in the top clamp. Sent this back for the Dewalt.

Good Scroll Saw

This was a huge upgrade over my ancient craftsman scroll saw. the blade changes are so much easier! I am able to do complex fret work that was impossible on my old saw

Not worth the $299 i dont recommend

Purchased saw 2/28 returned 2 hours later. i thought id give this one a try while my Excaliber was on order figured it would get me by for a while and be a rough cut/ backup after i get my new precision saw. Assembled stand squared off table(had to tweak quite a bit), Pulled pinned blade out put in a olsen pinless blade and blade holder ruined first blade,. after several attempts to adlust blade holder both top and bottom and ruining several blades i finally got one seated. ran some test cuts an...

Not worth it, you get what you pay for

I've had this machine for a month now and I'm not impressed with it at all. When taking corners the machine sounds like it's going to shut down. It's impossible to install pin less blades because of the tension. The machine also vibrates so much it's hard to follow your pattern. I have tried to call the store where it was purchased and no answer, phone keeps ringing. I will be returning this saw.

Breaking 'special bolts"

This saw keeps breaking 'special bolt' that the upper and lower arms pivot on. Bolt head is under the porter cable plastic label plate on side with serial number on it. Can not return because it was a gift and kept new in box for about 1 year before I got it. $35.00 from porter cable for 1 'special bolt'.
