What Customers Are Saying

The product did not provide long-term durability against weathering, with many customers experiencing peeling, cracking, and flaking of the coating within the first year, even when following instructions. While it initially worked well, the product failed to withstand moisture, freezing, and temperature changes, especially in harsh weather conditions. The overall consensus is that the product is not a reliable solution for restoring and protecting wood decks and patios.

Needs to be rescued

I used it on an indoor cement porch floor. Started peeling up in 6 months time. Not worth the time or money.

Worked great for me!

I live in Northern AZ +90F summer and +10F winter temps. I applied this product to a previously painted 8x8 uncovered porch that sits in the direct sun all day, every day. I had to belt sand the plywood flat first because it had begun to warp horribly. Followed the instructions to a tee and have had no problems with it going on +2yrs now.

UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS IS FOR!

Every review and picture shows a deck that is fairly good shape... Look at the picture on the bucket. Now look at your deck. It is called rescue it for a reason, if your deck has any hint of stain or paint on it you should not use this product and try a good quality porch 100% acrylic enamel. Also one gallon should go 80 square feet, so that is an area of a tiny-tiny room. One gallon could actually go 150-200 square feet, but this product NEEDS I repeat NEEDS two coats(10-15mils thick or 15 shee...

Not worth the time or the money

Very disappointed in this product. I spent 2 entire weekends doing the deck of my pool. 5 cans later, because to get all the cracks it takes more than 2 coats, I finished the floor the weekend before Memorial Day weekend. Did not put out any deck chairs etc. to ensure stain had plenty of time to dry/set. Made sure there wasn't any foot traffic either. Beautiful warm sunny days all week so one would think I was good to go. NOT. A day after setting the deck chairs out and using them, the stain had...

Waste of money

Would Not Recommend

We thought this would be a good product since Olympic has a good reputation. We were wrong! This product did NOT fill the holes (even small ones) on our deck, and it lasted less than a year. We spent the money to have it professionally applied, and within 9 months (including 1 winter), it was peeling off. We will call the company and try to get a refund, but we are going to have to redo the process with another product.

Prone to Peeling after 1 year in Northeast Weather

Would Not Recommend

Applied this product with preparation as directed: cleaned the deck with pressure washer and allowed to dry before application. Applied 2 coats of Olympic Rescue-It this past summer at dry conditions. The stain applied on top face started to crack and peel after one cold snowy winter. Complained to PPG and getting money back. Plus side = the cedar color does look nice, and stain on side faces is still holding onto surface.

Looks worse than before

This product did not stand up to weathering for even 1 year !!! Now the deck is chipped, peeling, and looks worse than before we "rescued it" last year. YUCK!

Buyer beware

Would Not Recommend

This product did not survive the winter. Olympic seems never to have considered that wood expands and contracts, and, nomatter how well it is coated with this stuff, cracks in the armor WILL develop; these let in the moisture that dooms this covering. When the snow melted, we found the ice had lifted up strips of the paint; simply using a leaf blower to clean up the loose pieces raised even more patches. Using a scraper to bring up other already-loose pieces resulted in about a 40% loss of total...

So dissapointed

Used it on my front porch. looked great at first but after winter a lot of it was peeled up. Hoping to get a refund from lowes as well. Really not looking forward to redoing my front porch again, for the expense of this it should have lasted as long as it claimed.

Great restorative product

Would Recommend

Don't know where these reviewers learned how to prep a surface, because this product worked great for us. Used it on a very old concrete porch and steps, two coats filled all the cracks that were causing the surface to disintegrate. That was last year and it still looks great!

This product is a rip off!!!!

We purchased this product for our deck last fall and thought at the time it was a great idea. Boy were we ever wrong!! It was pretty easy to apply to our deck, which is fairly large in size. After we cleaned the deck and prepped it for the restoration stain, we are not happy at all now. Don't get me wrong, it looked great right after we applied it, but that was last year before the winter. Now let's jump ahead to after the deck went through the winter. It looks horrible! After all of that hard w...

Will not buy again

Bought this product in June 2014 to restore my deck. I sanded the deck, power washed and cleaned it with a deck cleaner recommend by a Lowes employee. I applied the “Restores It” according to the instructions. In December of 2015 I noticed many areas of the deck were beginning to peel and turn a green color. It is now April and the deck is peeling badly. I’m going to have to start all over again but, this time I’ m not going to use this product. I’ve got better things to do.

Very disappointed. Our deck/ramp is the entire length of a double wide...then a ramp down the front the entire length...We put it on last year exactly like it said. It did not last the winter. It is peeling off everywhere down to the wood. We still have the receipts. I don't know what to do. Do we pressure wash it all off, scrape or sand the rest off.... We wasted alot of $$$$ money and time... Having to re-do it is going to be a mess getting it off.. alot of work and money to have it re-done an...

Doesn't last

I thought this product was the answer to my problems. I used it on 3 decks, one was much older wood, splintering and so on, the other two decks were not that old, no splinters. The paint looked nice when I used it in the summer, July, by April after the winter all 3 decks bubbled and peeled from end to end! I've been scraping and scraping in hopes to make the removal less of a nightmare in order to repaint (with something else of coarse). My decks look so horrible, I've never had it this bad wit...

This product did not last the winter. We spent a lot of money on this product and it is just peeling off. We did everything as directed. Very unhappy with the result. Now we have to sand off what is left and start all over with something else.

Didn't Last 6 Months

Would Not Recommend

I'm so disappointed in this product. I applied this stain to my deck last August during a warm, dry week. It went on easily and looked beautiful for the rest of the summer and all fall. But now that winter is over and the snow has all melted in the last week, there is an ugly mess on our deck. At first I saw just a few boards had peeled and cracked during the winter months. But it keeps getting worse. Every day there are more boards that are peeled and cracked. It's clear that I'm going to have ...

Very easy to use and looks great when rolled

We bought one gallon of this to refinish a dual wood seat. It was about 5 years old and had seen 3 coats of paint already. After scraping and a little sanding, we spent about 2 hours and 3/4 of a gallon to make an old chair look brand new! Take a look at the picture!

Disappointed

This appeared to be a great way to redo a deck that I can't afford to replace yet. However, as a previous reviewer noted the product came up after being wet due to snow and rain this winter (which was mild for this winter). I see issues even where the deck doesn't get wet. What use is a deck renewal product that can't get wet and cold? I may consider calling the company as the other reviewer did.

Moisture is an issue!

Would Not Recommend

Rescue It appears to be a great product. Easy to use. Durable. However, there is a major problem. We applied it to 2 of our patios this last summer. Worked great! But this winter? Large areas of the product lifted from the concrete surface. I called PPG. Bottom line, the product does not do well when exposed to long term moisture, freezing and re-freezing. Our patios get snow accumulation. Then melting, then freezing. Etc. PPG is going to send me my money back. Be careful where you are going to ...
