What Customers Are Saying
The water-based Minwax One Coat Polyurethane product received mixed reviews. Some users found it easy to apply with good results and a clear, protective finish. However, many others reported issues, describing the product as thick, difficult to apply, and prone to visible brush strokes and an uneven finish that required multiple coats, contrary to the "one coat" claim. Several customers had to sand down and start over after using this product. Overall, the consensus seems to be that the product's performance is inconsistent and unreliable.

Would Not RecommendDisappointed in the results. Going back to regular product. Shouldn’t overpromise and underdeliver.

Terrible product. Too thick, dries too quickly leaving brush strokes. Needed 3 coats with sanding between coats.

Failure with gel stain. Fragile finish
Would Not RecommendSpent hours, hand sanding , filling, prepping, staining. Using only this brand. It has failed at every turn. Have a dog... scratches so easily. Heaven forbid if the have an accident, turned area into a dust collecting mess, even with quick clean up. Need to touch up base boards? Even the good paint tape will pull off sporadically. Mite work on NO contact surface. But has failed even low contact areas. We used with the gel based minwax stain, AVOID.

Breaking news: Minwax screws up and takes us along
Would Not RecommendEven a well known brand like Minwax can make a mistake, but to leave you hanging without a solution or an apology sucks. The answer is "only" one coat. So what do I do with this finish that dried so rapidly that the brush left grooves and valleys that resemble the fa e of Devils Tower. Never again. Always read the reviews before buying a Minwax product.

Plus smells so weird
Would Not RecommendToo thick from the beginning. Didn’t smooth out and left all the brush tracks

Do not use
Would Not RecommendNever levels out. Consistency of icing. You get one shot at your brush stroke, otherwise it builds up or streaks. I bitterly regretted using this project. I refinished a table for a friend, and I didn't have time to correct the horrible mess. P.S. I'm a professional house painter with lots of experience with polyurethane.

Not One Coat
This stuff looks like Minwax Polycrylic only a lot thicker. The proposition that you can use just one coat for a nice finish is dubious at best. After my first coat, my super smooth sanded tabletop was rough and uneven requiring a light sanding and another coat. The product is water based so there's no smell, dries within an hour or two (dependent on air temp), and cleans up with soap and water. My advice? Get the Polycrylic and sand between two or three coats. Your finish will turn out a lot b...

DO NOT BUY
Would Not RecommendBought this today, because it was appealing that its "one coat". Oh my gosh, this product is the worst, and now I have to start over 3 days of work! Im beyond upset! I used a high quality brush, and it streaks so bad.

Temperature Matters
Would RecommendI put one coat on the bottom of a wood table (that I had stained) after storing in my basement. It was thick like glue and did not even out well. I kept it warmer before I put it on the top of my table (light sanding after the first coat) and it worked much better. I did two somewhat thin coats on top and the results are decent. I used a foam brush. I would recommend this product if a clear finish is what you want and you've read many of the reviews here to see what works and doesn't. The ...

Terrible product, do not buy
Would Not RecommendIf I could give it no stars I would. I’ve used polyurethane finishes in the past so not a newbie, this one is the worst. It dries so incredibly fast it’s almost impossible not to get brush marks in it as it won’t level. I’ve tried several techniques with no luck. Ruined a table I worked on for weeks to build. Minwax did you actually try this product before selling it? Reformulation needed.
