What Customers Are Saying
The product has a mix of positive and negative feedback. On the positive side, it features powerful suction that effectively vents cooking odors and steam, and many users find it easy to use and clean. However, a significant number of customers have experienced issues such as the unit failing to deploy or retract properly, becoming noisy over time, and having weaker suction than expected. There are also concerns about the overall quality and durability, with some reporting the product stopped working within a year or required multiple repairs. The performance and usability seem satisfactory for many, but the reliability issues are a notable drawback.

Would Not Recommend(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Well....it was slightly wider and deeper than our previous KitchenAid retractable exhaust fan so it was not a simple installation. Our granite counter top had to be cut wider and deeper to allow the new model enough room to fit the opening. Also, the on/off push button is finicky. Sometimes the unit starts by pushing and holding the on button other times you just push the on button. Needless to say we are not fans of the new on/off button. It ...

Could not install due to motor box location
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The motor box location is very low, and if your vent exit is in the floor you may not be able to install it as the gap between the floor and the base of the box is too small. There may be no room even to a flexible flex pipe.

Replacement to existing KitchenAid Downdraft Fan
Would Not Recommend[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Happy with the purchase based on it being an exact fit to the existing KitchenAid unit. We are dissapointed in that the unit physically lacks the quality of our existing unit. Etched Name instead of Raised Metal Label / Trimmings are lower quality / Fan is louder/ Long delivery time. It fits, it works, does not have the quality "look" of the original.

Broken. Not working properly.
Would Not RecommendThis was just installed on Friday August 15, 2025. Removed the filters to clean some packing adhesive & excess grease off and noticed the shattered mirrored surface. When the downdraft is raised it makes a grinding sound and is wobbly.

Good workmanship & very good design.
Would Recommend[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this downdraft exhaust fan to work with my new induction cooktop. It is working very well and I am really pleased with the workmanship.

Stopped working, won't stay in up position
Would Not RecommendWorked for maybe a year or so but now it won't stay in the up position.I had an appliance mechanic on and after several hours, he can't fix it. It'll have to go in the trash because I'm not throwing any more money away trying to fix it. Piece of junk.

Expensive and not very useful
Would Not RecommendThis isn't worth the money. It was my only option to vent my cooktop but it doesn't pull the steam so it just rises and fogs the window.

Buy the extended coverage
Would Not RecommendWe purchased this product in January of 2023, rarely ever used it and what do you know it stops working properly (13) months after purchase. If anyone intends to buy the same down draft, I would recommend purchasing an extended warranty.

Retractable Vent
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The vent is not made as well as one would expect from KitchenAid. The plastic button to retract and raise the vent is cheap and gets stuck. Very flimsy. Causing the vent to go up and down until you straighten out the button.

Pop up button needs improvement.
Would Recommend[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This rating would be 5 stars if the “pop up” button wouldn’t malfunction. It must be depressed straight down or the button will snag on the housing.

Poor instructions and difficult installation
Would Not Recommend[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this item for a center island. The unit is so large that it makes it difficult to install and connect to the current vents. The installation manual was very poor. It required some ingenuity to make the connections. After a full day, we did install the unit. It looks good, operates as advertised, but knowing the installation issues, I would look for something simpler
