Nothing's perfect

Ordered the mailbox & wood post online for pickup at the store. Unpacked the mailbox to find that the spot welds holding the magnetic door clasp in place had failed. The mailbox must have been dropped on it's face. The handle for the door sticks out past the front edge of the housing. It's a heavy mailbox, so it was like hitting the bracket with a hammer. Didn't want to breach the housing with a drill to rivet it in place, instead used JB Weld for metal to secure it. Have to wait for next w...

Worth the price because it outlasts all others

This is our second Gibraltar Heavy Duty Steel Mailbox. Our first (tan color) lasted around 15 years. It was still in good shape, even after many hits from vehicles. We just decided to get a black one to match the one we recently purchased for our parents who live next door. This model is worth the price. We built a post using 30+ year old 6” x 6” posts from an old deck. We notched them like Lincoln logs. It’s super strong.

Tough mailbox. Has nice magnetic door but the flag seems cheap and probably be the first thing that breaks

Very durable and well built

I wanted a sturdy mailbox with a magnetic latch. This did not disappoint. The only downside is that we wanted a red mailbox. As this mailbox is only offered in black in my area, I scuff sanded it and spray painted it red. The door is strong and lined up perfectly with the mailbox and magnetic latch.

Nice option over lesser quality mailboxes.

Very nice solid steel mailbox. Sturdy magnetic catch that I hope will last. A bit on the pricey side.

Strong Box

I bought this box ~3+ years ago because our boxes kept getting hit. This box has been hit at least a dozen times now. It is a champ. It has taken several side mirrors off and has been hit by many vehicles and trailers even though it is set back 14 inches. Yes, it is dented and banged up, but is still useable and very strong. Highly recommended.

It’s still the best

We bought one of these perhaps 20 years ago, before the company was acquired by its present owner, and finally had to replace it due to the door hinge rivets rusting out. It survived at least one baseball bat attack (a small dent in the top, and I suspect it hurt the attacker more than the box), but was otherwise in good shape until now. I’m happy to say that the new mailbox looks to be of the same degree of sturdiness. They moved the mounting holes, so be prepared to drill if you’re replacin...

Very sturdy

Love this large and heavy duty mailbox. It looks great!

The product is great but at my local Lowe's store, they had a demo one and that showed different dimensions than what arrived. I verified it was the EXACT same Model & Item numbers. The one I received was about an inch each way shorter.

Not very good at keeping the weather out.

Overall quality of box is good. Only complaint is that it does not keep the weather out very good. Had a hard rainstorm recently with high winds and the mail in the box was soaked. Yesterday we received a snowstorm with high winds and the inside of the box was full of snow. For the price, one would think that it would do a better job of protecting the insides.

Durable box but prone to leaks around door.

The door did not fit properly and was rubbing the side of the unit when closing. The back corner of the box also was bent slightly, but it did not interfere with the installation. The paint had also chipped off of the back corner of the box.
