Is this powerful enough to churn up areas of dead/killed grass?

Will do as long as the weed root systems are shallow and not extensively interwoven. If root systems are over 6 inches deep then grow back is possible even if tops killed off by chemical application.

Was this Answer Helpful ?The power comes from the trimmer you use to attach this to. I would recommend getting as high CC trimmer as you can afford to go with this. We got a 28CC and it does well, but still get bogged down here and there in hard soil. I also recommend that you use it going side to side instead of back and forth. This will take less energy to contral and I got better results getting through tough spots with it cutting from the side than straight forward.
