Can this be used to strap a 42" x 42" patio table (in or out of the box) to the top of a mid-sized sedan? How would I do that?

If your vehicle does not have a secure roof rack, there would not be any sufficient, secure locations for the ratchet tie down hooks. These ratchet tie downs should not be used without accessible, secure locations for the hooks. In addition, please refer to your vehicle manufacture's manual for the maximum weight capacity for the roof top.
