if your floor is sqeaking, it's probably due to nails that have pulled up from the plywood and rub when you step in that general area. your best bet, if and before installing underlayment and hardwood laminate, is to run 3" screws into the studs of your floor. The answer to your question is yes, but very minimal. it will provide cushioning but those nails will still rub until it's fixed.
Was this Answer Helpful ?It does help keep the floor quiet, but I used the premium stuff in my bedroom and I can tell the premium stuff is slightly quieter, but not sure the extra expense is worth it. I installed engineered hardwood and I wish I would have glued it down to keep it quiet. That said, I suggest a floating floor near doors that go to the outside in case you develop some leak.
