Was this Answer Helpful ?This grab bar is not met to support the full weight of a person. Just to steady a person and hold on to it for you needs. If it was my mother I would have a professional to install a fix grab bar(s) to ensure that it will support the full weight of a person.

Was this Answer Helpful ?It depends on what type of surface you are attaching the suction cup type bar to. If your Mother-in-law is heavy, I would suggest you use the type of assist bars that screw into your wall studs. You can find a nice variety in the Fashion Bath department of your local Lowe's.
