Does the planter part have to be installed? Or can there is there a option to have no arm there at all.


It is optional. There are no pre-drilled holes in the post, so you can leave it off if you like. Depending on where the obstruction is, you could even, possibly, mount the planter box above or below the obstruction.

It does not have to go on it if you don't want it to. Very easy to install.
