Can this be refessed in a wall or is it surface mount only?


Yes, it can be recessed however mounting it may be a problem if intending to do an old work installation. For the easiest method of mounting, make sure the mounting feet are accessible and mount using the back surface. The mounting feet can be snapped off at the break lines to ease how large of an opening that would need to be cut, if need be.
