Can I use it to hang an outdoor ceiling fan in a semi enclosed attached carport?

No, the 175 is not rated for fan support, or outdoor installations. The PRCF57550GY is our weatherproof fan support box, that mounts to the truss/joist, or framing member.

No! Ceiling fans must be hung from approved ceiling fan boxes.

Thank you for your inquiry on RACO model 175. This particular box does not support ceiling fans. Please contact your local electrical inspector to see if the RACO 299 can be used for your particular application. If the local electrical inspector approves the use of RACO 299, please visit your local Lowe's store and speak with someone at the special order desk. If he requires a rain tight type of box for ceiling fan applications, RACO does not offer this type of box.
