Hello Ggguitar, No, please do not purchase Model 346941 because it is not a stair rail. Instead, you should purchase Model 346945 which is our stair rail, and yes, you can cut it in half. You will need to purchase (2) of Model 346968 and (2) of Model 346969. The 39" posts are for the top of your stairs, and the 48" posts are for the bottom. You will also need an extra package of stair swivels, which is Model 351133. - Your Deckorators Team
