What is the required spacing between the joists? Do they need to be 12” or 16”, would 12” increase the lifespan?


I think he meant 16 inch on center, not 16 foot lol.

Standard joist spacing is 16-ft on center for residential decks. You would have to check your local building codes for exceptions.
