Tub of DryDex in house for year. Opened lid, pink is gone. DryDex has putty consistency, spreads like mud. Will indicator return by adding h2o?

Today I opened a container that sat unopened for a couple of years. The pink was gone but it was still the consistency of sparkle. It worked well.
Was this Answer Helpful ?Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP DryDex Spackling. The DryDex Spackling product should appear as a bright pink color. As the product ages, the intensity of the bright pink color will fade to a light grey/purple tone. This color change is an indicator that the product is at/well beyond shelf life. This does not necessarily mean that the product is unusable, however, the benefit the dry time indicator provides will be reduced and/or lost. Providing that the filler is still pliable, a small volume of water may be added to until a smooth/even texture/consistency is achieved (original texture when new/fresh). The addition of water will not restore the project to its original bright pink color. If the described procedure is not effective, it typically indicates that the product is no longer viable/usable. Based on your description of the texture/consistency of the product, it is likely that the material would not be able to be reconstituted and would need to be discarded.
