I'm not sure of the decibel levels involved, but in my application, I can tell a monumental difference when in the rooms that have it. I have mine in a partial basement, and when there is activity going on upstairs, you can really hear it in the part without the dropped ceiling. When I step through the door into the part with the ceiling tiles, the noise practically disappears.
