I want softer water, but not totally soft water. Can I choose the level of hardness?

Sure, you can adjust the softness of your water with this unit. But good luck getting it just right. This unit has a bypass valve. If you experiment with it, you can adjust the valve to "partially" bypass the hard water with the soft and get a mix. But, I don't advise using this method because it would be difficult to get a good middling on the bypass valve.
Was this Answer Helpful ?No you cannot. This "hardness" setting is only used to determine when to recharge the unit. All water flowing through it will be softened unless the salt runs out. To do what you want, you'd have to build some type of blending valve to blend the softened and unsoftened streams. Doing so would cause you to lose nearly all the advantages of having a softener anyway. There really isn't any reason to make it "sort of softened".

Was this Answer Helpful ?By reducing the hardness setting on your water softener below what the actual water hardness is you will get some hardness left in the water. There is not a simple way to say for example that if you set it at 5 grains below your actual water hardness you will then have 5 grain hard water but in the end you will leave some water hardness in your water. You didn't say why you want to leave the water partially hard and if we know your reason we may be able to help further. Was this Answer Helpful ?No, but what this does is to just control the softness to where is should take out the orange, it does not make it real soft.
