I know we have hard water. This will be our third softener in 29 years. Do we still need to get our water tested before we buy the new water softener?

If you live in a city, most often that information is already available simply by calling your local water department or going on line at your local water master headquarters. That is where I found the information for my city. Also, your local Lowe's plumbing manager probably knows what the hardness rating is for your local area. Otherwise, Lowe's offers a low-cost kit that is easy to use to test the hardness of your well water.

It depends if you are on city water or well water and if you already know your waters hardness level or not. You will need to set your hardness level on a new water softener when it is installed. You can get this by calling your municipality if you are on city water or by testing your water if you are on well water.
