Does it have to be mounted to the wall?

Nope. You can always mount it using double sided tape if you don't want to drill holes on a wall or if you are mounting the remote control base somewhere were drilling is not practical.
Was this Answer Helpful ?It comes with screws to mount it but you could just use double sided tape. The unit is very light weight.
Was this Answer Helpful ?It doesn't have to be mounted on wall, it can sit on a table, but it can be mounted with command strips - I used 2, one top, one bottom and left a little tab of the command strip sticking out so I can remove in the future if I desired. The remote unit base also has holes in it that line up with an electrical box, so if you had a box where a switch would go, or even installed a regular or low voltage box, the remote base could mount on it with screws and then the switch plate installed.
Was this Answer Helpful ?I have mine mounted to my mobile cart for dust control fan activation. I've been as far as 30 yards away and it worked. It is battery controlled and can be mounted anywhere there is room, where it can not melt of course. There is a mounting plate that you screw in and the switch screws into that. I suppose you could velcro anywhere.
