Would this be suitable for a 1/2hp garbage disposal?


No. This is not for Inductive load (motors), might result in relay contacts damage from the arcing and FIRE!!

Absolutely, up to 15 amps. Great if you have an outlet under your sink that is hot all the time and don't want to run electrical through your walls, behind your counter / backsplach etc, for an actual light switch. BTW, this is not hazardous machinery lol, it's a garbage disposal which are ALL switch operated....
