Why is this cord rated only for 20 amps? Wouldn't 10 gauge wire be good for up to 30 amps?


There are several considerations other than wire gauge. The material of the conductor, solid copper or copper clad aluminum. The length of the run. The current capacity of the plug ends or connectors. You have to go with what the manufacturer states. A 30 amp cord will have different ends.
