Hello mark! Some Light Strings go into a DEFAULT SETTING when Turned on or Plugged in! This probably has nothing to do with the Plug In Timer when the lights come on. Try a REGULAR Plug to see if after you have the stringer plugged in and see if your setting stays the same.

Sounds like there is either a problem with the lights or a setting on your them. All the timer does is provide power to the lights.
