You might have to re-wire the circuit to install this timer. Probably you will need an electrician.

the hot has to be in the switch box, that is the wire that is used for normal switches. But yes you will need all three present (Hot, Neutral and ground) this switch has 4 wires; Hot in Hot out Neutral Ground
