HOW TO INSTAL IT IN A 3 WIRE OUTLET

I just did. My electric box had a ground wire which is what is the 4th plug is hooked to . It was a little tight but it worked.
Was this Answer Helpful ?Don't do it! This is a violation of the National Electrical Code (also known as the National Fire Protection Association Article #70), as well as most local building codes. Leaving the ground terminal unconnected could present a severe, i.e., fatal shock hazard. In addition, if an electrical fire starts in the house, even if it doesn't start in this circuit, could be grounds for your insurance company to deny your damage claim as a result of unsafe wiring practices by unlicensed personnel. Do yourself a favor and do it right, either by using an approved three-prong outlet for the existing wiring, or by hiring a licensed, professional electrician to re-wire the circuit for a four-wire, grounded outlet as specified in the latest edition of the Code (2017).

The white is the common to the grounding bar in the panel and the green or copper is ground . The plug side for white has a common wire location, the ground could be to the plug body or a screw.
