Can this be used to charge a Tesla automobile?

New code requires the outlet to be rated for ev use due to the continuous power draw. The other answers are to old. A charger can melt these outlets
Was this Answer Helpful ?it can charge a Tesla, but under 30 amps, This outlet is for range for short time load. Telsa charge can be under a load for hours and can overheat the outlet. This outlet should not be labeled industrial, see attached PDF, no where it says it is industrial.

Was this Answer Helpful ?Yes, the Tesla charger that comes with the car comes with a NEMA 14-50 plug. Install it with a 50 amp circuit breaker and 6 awg wire.
Was this Answer Helpful ?Whether this receptacle can be used to charge a Tesla depends on the power requirements of the charger, but you haven't provided that information. I suspect, however, that the requirement will be for 240 volts and all you should need is a 240 volt 3-wire receptacle. The installation manual that comes with the charger will provide the power requirements and also tell you what NEMA configuration receptacle that is needed.
