Does this receptacle require a ground wire?


No, this dryer receptacle is for replacement purposes on pre-1996 dryer circuits before a separate ground wire was required by the NEC. If you have an existing dryer circuit with 4-wires you should use the 4-wire dryer receptacle. If you are installing a new dryer circuit you should also use a 4-wire dryer receptacle.
