Why does this not stay on? I took one back for this reason and got another but but after going on at duck, both of them go on and off continuously.

check your wiring. then make sure you haven't screwed it into a motion sensor

This has been my experience too. Very frustrating!

I have the same issue. I am returning it for a different model from a different manufacturer

There is a light sensor on the side. When it detects darkness it turns the light on. When it detects light it turns the light off. If it is constantly cycling then the sensor is picking up the light from the bulb it is attached to. The device comes with a cylinder "shade" you can put over the sensor to try and avoid this. That worked for me.

The light from your bulb when it comes on is shining on the sensor. shield the light from the bulb so it only shines downward.
