Is there an "on/off" switch for the unit when not being used after the Christmas season?


Yes. It has a manual on/off function using the MANU button

The unit has a non-replaceable, rechargable battery inside. I would suggest plugging it in overnight at least once a month. I suppose you could just leave it plugged in all the time. The unit will not overcharge the battery, it will just keep it trickle charged.
