The hook is in the bracket. How do I get it out and on top of the light so I can hang the light?

Just push it down from the top with a bit of pressure and then do the same when in the upright position.

By design, the hook is shipped in the light upside down. All that you need to do is to push the hook up through the cage until it pops out (it is fairly snug - you won't break it by pushing on it). Once it pops out, flip the hook over and re-insert it.
