No, the edger attachment cannot be used on a KOBALT 40 volt.

Hello - Unfortunately the Kobalt 40-volt trimmer does not accept universal gas attachments. However the Kobalt 80-volt trimmer does accept the universal gas attachments. Thank you for your question.
