The black rings normally have a small gap between the halves that allows them to compress and grab the grooves in the steel tubes.
Was this Answer Helpful ?When the shelf goes down over the 2 black pieces they will tighten up.
Was this Answer Helpful ?The black shelf supports do not look like they fit together as they should but if you slide them down until they kind of snap into a ring etched in the corner posts, then set the shelf in place, (not all that easy) they will do the job. I have two of these units and they are both quite sturdy and the shelves are secure.
