I am building a house and installing a 400 amp service using two 200 amp Homeline


The unit will work fine with the homeline load center. You just need access to a 3/4" knockout. To answer your quantity question, it would depend on how you feed the load centers. if you have TWO incoming feeds from the utility that are independent, you will need two devices. if you are feeding one panel from another, you will only need one on the panel furthest upstream toward the utility. Generator should not affect this unit.

Yes, surge protective device is required for each load center. HEPD80 is not affected by backup generator and transfer switch.
