right wire for freestanding stove?

Hi, happy to help! Yes — 6/3 NM‑B (Romex SIMpull) is the correct wire size for most electric ranges on a 50‑amp circuit, and a 50‑ft run is well within acceptable distance with minimal voltage drop. Just make sure the stove’s nameplate calls for a 40A or 50A circuit, and that the cable is used indoors only, since NM‑B cannot be run outdoors or underground. If we can help in any other way, please reach out to us at consumersupport@southwire.com.

Your existing circuit would be 240 volts and not 220. 220 volts hasn't been available in the U.S. for at least 80 years. For a freestanding electric range you need a 120/240 volt circuit and could use 6-3 NM-B cable with the existing 2 pole 50 amp breaker for that circuit. If it were mine, I'd use 8-3 NM-B cable on a 2 pole 40 amp breaker.

Yes, most areas only require 8 guage wire for your application. This 6 guage is even better!
