Was this Answer Helpful ? Yes, cat 5 is the cable yo need. Lower cost than the alternatives and it is more than enough. You can use cat5, cat5e, cat6... etc. any "CAT/rj45 connector" cable will work for a home data run. Cat 6 has higher transfer rates and better shielding but cat 5 is all you need for home use, cat 5e and cat6 are for voice over IP and data center applications. Unless you live underneath high tension power lines cat 5 is more than enough.
