I will be joining two 6x12 12’ beams together above a center footing as a joist support for a deck. Will these work to support the butt joint?

Hello Aviarik, This is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. I believe you have discovered our published Allowable Loads - Beam Installation for an ABU66Z supporting an s4s 6x12 (5-1/2"x 11-1/4") beam. On our home page, strongtie.com, enter ABU in the Search Strongtie.com field in the upper left corner. Click on the picture of the Adjustable Post Base (ABU), scroll down to Catalog Pages 68-69 hyperlink for more information including the allowable load values, required fasteners and designer footnotes. However, these allowable load values would not apply if you will be joining two 6x12 - 12’ beams together above a center footing as a joist support for a deck. I suggest you review this information with a design professional and/or your local code official to determine if the ABU66Z is suitable for your project. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.
