this covers are good for what you wish to do. just make sure that the depth of the cover is deep enought.

Just came across this section on Lowes.com and I hope I can offer come insight. While it's a great way to have piece of mind with your cords and receptacle protected, one concern I've always had about these types of covers is the fact that they protrude off the wall. If your outlet box is in a high traffic area such as next to your back door where people walk in and out, or if children or animals run by often, the cover can be at risk of being ran into and snapped off. If yours is not in any such location, as I said before, they're not bad devices.
