Will this work for hinges and doorknobs?

This paint rubbed off of a bed that we painted.

I have some that is @ three years old now and the paint looks great still. If there is metal being rubbed the paint will wear away, but that's normal.

I used it on interior doorknobs- scuffed them up a little with sandpaper, put on two coats of the spray paint and then one or two coats of Valspar perfect finish clear satin sealer spray. After about three months they are holding up well- no cracking or wearing off. I suspect in time I will begin to see scratches on the most frequently used doorknobs. But they look so much better than they did before I painted them that I'm very happy with the outcome.

I would use it for hinges and door knobs. Put two coats on the door knobs and understand that with time, all paints will wear, especially with the oils in your skin constantly rubbing on the knobs. Just know that you may have to paint the knobs again in a year, or possibly more, depending on usage.

Door knobs- totally. Hinges - haven't tried but I think it might. The house I rent was built in the 1920s so I'm dealing with lots of layers of paint. If it was a new hinge I'd say - no problem. The wear on the door knob I did a year ago was minimal and it was the front door - high traffic. It would take seconds to touch up but I decided I liked the way it looked. Sand it with sand paper and keep in mind that the direction of the scratches from the paper will create a pattern under the paint. I used a pie tin covered in a plastic grocery bag to spray the paint into and then a Q-Tip to apply. Removing the handle wasn't an option because I don't own.

It works great, but be sure to sand and steel wool prior. (When spraying knobs, put them on an empty toilet paper roll to stand them up for even spraying) On heavily used door knobs, I have seen some wear, but all other areas look great. I will likely replace those heavily trafficked knobs with an actual oil rubbed bronze knob, but all the other knobs and hinges still look great at a fraction of the price of replacing them with new.
