You've come to the right place, Peggy! Rust-Oleum spray paints, including Rust-Oleum Touch 'n Tone Spray, do contain solvents and other ingredients that can be harmful while the paint is still drying, however after it has fully cured the resin itself should certainly be safe for children's toys, animal cages, etc. The key is to ensure that the paint has fully cured. With good drying conditions this can take as little as one week, but with cooler temperatures, higher humidity, or if heavier coats are applied it can extend out the cure time. We actually have had customers wait as much as a month, just to ensure that the paint has fully cured, in order to protect their pets and children from any possible exposure. If you do choose to paint the crib, a solid color is recommended. Metallic finishes can contain leafing pigments which may rub off the surface, even after the paint has fully dried. It is also a good idea to wash the paint in warm, soapy water after it has been allowed to cure, and before putting it back into use. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5
