So I've wire brushed the rusty item, after I paint with the rust reformer, is a primer helpful/needed before top coating or is the rust reformer sufficient as a primer?


Good question! Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Rust Reformer Spray can be topcoated with an aerosol paint after 24 hours. If a water-based paint is the desired topcoat, the surface must be primed with Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer.
