The KitchenAid mixer is heavy enough that it can just sit on it. It will work just fine.
Was this Answer Helpful ?Yes Nan it just sits on the shelf, the same way in would sit on a stationary surface. I would recommend that you use a hand to stabilize the appliance unit when actually moving it from the storage position to the use position. Many old style office desks had a similar device for typewriters (remember those) and did not have to secured to the shelf.
